Okinoshima Island Is A Forbidden Island For Women
The island of Okinoshima in South West Japan has so strict religious rules that only allows men to enter.
This Japanese holy island, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017, along with several other places, is exclusively for men.
The island of Okinoshima, immersed in the ancient Shinto doctrinal system in Japan, was discovered by Japanese sailors in the fourth century AD.
Tens of thousands of ancient objects that have been kept for centuries on the island as rituals throughout the world represent the rich ancient culture of the region.
Although the true reason for the ban on women entering the island is not clear, women are likely to be banned from the site due to ancient taboos or security.
Other prohibitions on this island include eating four-legged animals and a ban on people leaving without a license from the cleric.
